sweater weather

I recently realized that every outfit post I’ve done on this blog has been in a dress or skirt, probably due to the summer heat! But now there’s a chill in the air and I’m more excited than ever to wear scarves, tights, leggings, and boots. My most recent purchase is this amazingly soft infinity scarf from Anthro. Here’s my first shot at an outfit. Can you believe me, in leather shorts?

star provisions

Why has it taken me three years of living in Atlanta to have lunch in Star Provisions? The world may never know. What I do know now is that it’s the perfect spot to share a casual bite with a friend (which is exactly what I did). Nestled in the heart of Westside Atlanta, Star Provisions is the casual marketplace sibling to Anne Quatrano’s more well-known culinary ventures. I’ve not yet managed to get myself into Bacchanalia, most often named the best restaurant in Atlanta, but maybe this visit could buy me a little more time.

new chapters of patience

The month of September has been a month of change. I moved to a new location (still in Atlanta) with my beau, turned 26 years young, and began two new part-time jobs. No single thing from this list felt monumental at the time, but they all symbolize tiny turning points that may or may not lead to significant change for the coming year. These milestones mark a period in my life where patience will most definitely be the greatest and most difficult virtue to achieve and maintain.

I’ve thought about the importance of patience many a time before, but it’s never felt so pertinent to all facets of my life. I feel like the stars are on a path to aligning; not quite there yet but on the verge. Perhaps these past few weeks of instability have led to me recognizing my greater desire to invest rather than withdraw. I’m not sure how or why, but I’ve finally decided to give it the ol’ college try with these new jobs; they’re not dream jobs by any stretch of the imagination, but for the first time in a long time I feel like the brands of the companies I’m working for are cohesive with my own personal lifestyle and aesthetic. My faith in this harmony has led me to the decision to give a large portion of my time to them.

That being said, I do intend to keep up this blog as best I can, as it’s been one of the very few saving graces I’ve had from the professional turbulence. Perhaps I won’t have as many awesome pictures to show (because I no longer will be free to go to see so many cool things), but I will still have plenty to say – about life, love, and continuing to nurture the artist within. My writing along with my artwork will no doubt suffer from the overwhelming limits I have on time, but I’m hoping it’ll be a challenge that elicits focus instead of aimless meandering. Nevertheless, my goal remains the same: to gain clarity on what will lead to a healthy, happy, and more balanced fulfilling life. Wish me luck!

In case you couldn’t tell already, I love patterns. I love looking at patterns, figuring out patterns, creating patterns. I only wish I had more reasons/time/media to make patterns for! Here are some of my favorites from my pattern Pinterest board.

i am a princess

Sometimes I like to end the tiring work day with a movie; an escape from reality. A reminder of the poetic beauty in life we seem to forget in the day to day grind. Last night I decided I would pop in a childhood favorite, A Little Princess. Please tell me you’ve seen it. If you haven’t, it’s totally a must see (I’m serious) for every daughter, sister, mother, and best friend. I had been feeling stumped on what to write for this week’s linkup until I was reminded exactly why I loved this movie. The main character is sort of like the spirit guide or guardian angel that we all deserve to have whispering in our ears; her unconditional faith in the magic and beauty of the world is more poignant to me now than ever.

I fully realize the level of cheese I’m at when I’m spouting sonnets about how much I love this movie, but I’m just a sucker for films/books/anything that reminds me of the hope we all used to have when we were children. We believed we could be princesses, we could be artists, we could be anything we want if we just believed in it hard enough. Where does all that optimism go when it disappears? Does it transform into resignation and regret? Could it ever turn back into what it once was?

orlando eats

Thanks to some awesomely hospitable friends, a recent trip to Orlando was not just to see the happiest place in the world. Two delightful meals make Christina one happy camper. Cask & Larder‘s brunch was wonderfully fattily decadent, complete with their own cronut iteration and a deadly bloody mary (so I’m told).

the fantastic world of kim keever

The visual universe of Kim Keever is one of mysterious and sometimes foreboding majesty – a new iteration of surrealism. We see his landscapes as a place that is as familiar as it is foreign, seductive enough to draw us in despite any suspicions of potential danger.

cafe jonah

There are so many adorable breakfast/brunch places up in the atl that I don’t even know where to start. This is just one of many reasons why I can’t see myself being able to live anywhere else but here.

Cafe Jonah is one of my most recent favorites and it resides in a little converted cottage in the heart of Buckhead. That right there already gets you, doesn’t it? Well, get ready for more.

On Sundays, Cafe Jonah has a “pay-what-you-like” brunch in which you literally pay whatever you want. There’s no catch whatsoever, just faith in the good of your heart. And whether you’re eating in or taking to go, there’s a plethora of delectable options to satisfy both your sweet and savory addictions…

the cost of beauty

There’s something so beautiful about mornings. The sun slowly streams through your window and it’s like possibility is being reborn. A couple mornings ago, as I was enjoying my morning coffee drip and toast with apple butter, I took notice to a guest on the Today Show.  The topic was personal finances and the guest was Kate Northrup, author of Money, A Love Story. Her book is a guide on how to refocus your understanding of money in order to take into account not only its monetary value, but its emotional value as well. Her perspective makes perfect sense to me and reminded me of how infrequently we, as a society and particularly as women, feel like we have enough to be happy.

tumblr_mn2om1QyVT1sn4trro1_1280

I thought this would be a great subject to touch upon for the Choose Beauty Linkup because the way in which we choose to spend money can directly relate to how beautiful or valuable we consider our surroundings and belongings. Money is such a sore subject and I often find myself (especially lately with the move and the job instability) complaining that I don’t have enough of it. It’s easy to resort to this rant because it places blame on the external rather than admitting to the weaknesses of the internal.

so long summer

Say hello to a joint style post! Hopefully I can do more of these in the near future, particularly because I have such adorable friends.
