is this your heartbeat or is it mine?

A good friend of mine recently made the decision to change her entire life.

Something was missing and she had been ignoring it for too long. She existed in a state of limbo, in between ending and beginning, wondering when she’ll feel whole. She decided she wasn’t going to be passive about it; instead she would seek it out for herself, shake things up and see where everything falls. Because it really was just like that – she was holding in her hands a configuration of little bits and pieces that she knew all too well. With her eyes closed, she held her breath and threw them up in the air. Now, watching them fall into a new set.

All of that was an effort to put into words how much I admire her self-awareness, courage, and willpower. She set out into an unknown and so I made this driving playlist for her, to keep her ablaze and give her company on her journey. What I didn’t know is that in creating such a playlist, I would end up listening to it nonstop.

I chose these songs because they speak to certain emotional moments you go through in shaking up your life: desire, awe, fear, doubt, nostalgia, peace, freedom. I find myself listening to this on repeat because I’m hoping I’ll catch some of her drive and, once again, get on with moving closer and closer to living the life I always dreamt about.

holiday ragin’

holiday ragin' playlist

No, not shopping rage. By holiday ragin’, I mean like holiday parties galore! I’d give anything to have a great soiree to attend; I love the idea of decking yourself all out in jewels and jewel tones to really eat, drink, and be merry. Not to mention I pretty much love any excuse to dance in public. Though I don’t have any special social engagements lined up, there will still be dancing around my house to be had. And for that, I give you this playlist of catchy beats – let yourself go and celebrate another great year gone by!

new currents

playlist by tide & bloom

As summer winds down and the breeze starts to pick up, I am being renewed. I have moved to a new residence (unpacking is another story) and am in the midst of many changes happening in my professional life. All this change can be stressful, but there is a relief in the air that holds hope for new beginnings or at the very least some happy holidays. While I’m somewhat terrified of change, I know it’s necessary to move forward and get closer to the life I envisioned for myself. So here is a new music playlist – songs to build anticipation and invite change, whether it be internal or right before your eyes.

that feeling

late summer playlist | tide & bloom

The best thing about late summer is that feeling. That feeling you get when you’re about to skinny dip into a lake. That feeling when you’re just tipsy enough to dance like no one is watching (and not fall over). That feeling of watching a fire burn down to just embers. Like your life is destined for a romance like the stuff of young adult novels, all starry-eyed and lovelorn. And your only goal is to continue living free.
